Description:
Once seen, never forgotten: that's a Moss lamp!

That was the Moss Lamp Company’s motto back in the 1950s. Founded in San Francisco by Gerry Moss in 1937. They started out manufacturing traditional metal stemmed lamps with fabric shades and during World War II while steel was a premium the Moss family had to come up with alternative materials for their products so they started using Plexiglas. This allowed them to make well over a 1,000 different lamps during that time period with various themes.

This particular lamp was created in the 1950s, manufactured from Plexiglas with an Asian theme and an unusually large original shade made from what we believe is pressed straw. The lamp itself is quite large for a table lamp and has a fully operational 3-way switch at the top with a single switch to illuminate the Plexiglas base if needed. This piece is in good condition for its age and with the shade made from very fragile products, it is amazing that its all still very well intact. This lamp would make an amazing statement in a collector’s home.
